Assessment Services
A comprehensive evaluation includes an intake with client and/or caregiver, behavioral observations, and testing of cognition, neuropsychological processes, and socio-emotional functioning. Information from parents and teachers is also included when appropriate. Combined, this information yields an integrative report with diagnostic conclusions, recommendations, and referrals. All assessment batteries are tailored to the individual patient’s needs.
Pediatric Evaluation
Children are brought for neuropsychological evaluations when they are struggling at school, cannot communicate as well as their peers, have social-emotional issues, and/or their behavior is disruptive.
Another reason for children to be evaluated is to establish their cognitive profile following significant medical history (e.g., cancer, seizures, head injury, etc.).
Cognitive testing is also performed to gain entrance to private schools, gifted, or special education programs.
Adult Evaluation
Adults may seek a neuropsychological assessment to clarify effects of neurological and medical disorders (e.g., stroke, cancer, meningitis, brain trauma, etc) on their cognitive functioning.
Problems with memory, attention, and concentration as well as decrease in self-care and other activities of daily living often prompt adults to seek an evaluation.
Another common reason for obtaining an assessment for adults is to receive accommodations for college and graduate school entrance exams. It is important to keep in mind that there is no guarantee that accommodations will be granted.

Cognitive testing covers the various cognitive abilities that define intelligence.
Learning & Skills testing evaluates performance in various functional areas, including oral and written language, mathematics, and reading.
Attention & executive functions testing assesses emotional regulation, ability to stay on task, planning, inhibition of responses, and cognitive flexibility.
Language testing examines expressive and receptive verbal competence.
Memory testing analyzes visual and verbal learning abilities and strategies.
Sensorimotor & visual-spatial testing investigates fine motor dexterity, motor coordination, and visual perception.
Psychosocial testing explores behavioral and emotional functioning which may include client, parent, and teacher measures as appropriate.
Developmental & syndrome specific testing provides individualized evaluation to more specifically address unique functional status of child.
